Dr. Dieter Brucklacher honored with German Mechanical Engineering Award

The former Chairman of the Leitz Group Management Board was honored for his life’s work at the 7th German Mechanical Engineering Summit. The German Mechanical Engineering Award (Preis Deutscher Maschinenbau) is one of the most prestigious awards in the industry.
The panel of experts from Economy and Science paid tribute to Dr. Brucklacher’s accomplishments, including the establishment of the Leitz Group and his social commitment. The entrepreneur managed Leitz for forty years. Additionally he supported the mechanical engineering industry, and played a leading role in determining the direction of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) and the Federation of German Industry (BDI).
After his studies of physics were completed, Dr. Dieter Brucklacher (75) began his career as a research assistant at the Institute of Material and Solid State Research in the Nuclear Research Centre in Karlsruhe, subsequently joining the Leitz family business in 1974. In 1975, he was appointed Managing Director, and from 1982 on acted as Chairman of the Board of Management. Under his leadership, Leitz became a global leader in producing and servicing tools for wood and plastic pro-cessing. In July 2014, Dr. Brucklacher transitioned to the Leitz Advisory Board. From 1997 to 2004, he served as Chairman of VDMA at the national level, and from 2004 to 2008, he was the President at the federal level. From 2007 to 2008, Dr. Brucklacher was Vice President of BDI. He was a member of the General Assembly and the Presidency of the IHK East Württemberg (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) and represented the interests of the regional economy and the devel-opment of the site of East Württemberg on an industrial and cultural level.
